Music and The Great Outdoors

Frontier Days SW Chapter Showcase Stage

There’s something about live music….and when it’s outdoors, well, that’s just a whole new experience! We are well into summer now, and the summer festivals are abundant. Yes, you have your Dauphins and your Cravens (which, although I haven’t been in a few years, are shows to be reckoned with!), but there are tons of smaller outdoor shows as well. I just finished celebrating my 20 year high school reunion back at our old stomping grounds  (I know…20 years!?!) It was also a reunion for my old band mates, as we got together for the first time in 5 years. All it took was a flat deck trailer for a stage  and voila, we had an outdoor show – which included another local band. The weather was perfect, and other locals that many hadn’t seen for years came out to watch and hang out. And the week before, the SW Chapter of the SCMA had a flat deck stage set up at Frontier Days in Swift Current. All us members had a set and entertained fairgoers for 2 days.  I have a couple shows left this summer – Chaplin’s centennial celebrations on July 28. I’ll be doing an acoustic set from 12-1, and on Aug 4 I’ll be perfoming with Backroads at Palliser Park to celebrate the park’s 50th anniversary. I love going to outdoor concerts, almost as much as I love playing at them! I found a page on Tourism Saskatchewan’s website that lists some outdoor shows throughout Saskatchewan this summer, and I’m sure these are just the tip of the iceburg. If you know of any others around, please let us know with a comment below. Enjoy the music of the summer and hopefully see you at one of the shows!
