This ‘Ole Guitar

Ovation Legend 1619 – this is my guitar and I love it! I bought it second hand for $150 about 15 years ago – best 150 bucks I ever spent. I really didn’t know much about Ovation guitars, I had an entry level Takamine at the time. But once I picked this guy up I was sold. It’s been my trusty sidekick since, following me as far as New Zealand and Australia, and when I moved to Saskatchewan, it remained my faithful friend. We spent many late nights together, through tragedy and triumph. The past few years I’ve  set it aside to begin raising a family. I didn’t realize how much I missed it until I unpacked it and once again it’s never too far away. The only flaw that I can see (and I’m certainly no expert) is the crack down the middle. Appearance-wise, as far as I’m concerened, it just adds character. It has a stereo pickup, which I’m sure was great once upon a time, but the crack is causing a couple strings to be closer to the pickup and thus when plugged in the B and D strings ring louder than the rest. I’m not sure if there is a fix for this…but what I did was bought a Dean Markley soundhole pick-up and a Boss equalizer pedal. Together with my pawn shop purchase of a Crate acoustic combo amp, we are armed and ready! I’ve had a blast this past year performing acoustically at places like the Lyric Theater in Swift Current, and at Christmas parties etc. Next winter, I think it would be cool to play at some house concerts. What’s a house concert you ask? Well, I’ll fill you in on that in another post. Til then,  keep me and my guitar in mind if you are looking for entertainment – email me at corinnenewtonmusic@gmail.com or go to the contact and links tab. Now back to my guitar 🙂

Here’s my first house concert with the Crate amp
