Prairie Girl….
This is me…country girl, singer/songwriter, straight from the Canadian prairies! If you’re like me, music is a passion. Whether you play, sing, write or just like to listen, music is a passion. I love sports. Have played hockey, soccer and volleyball in my younger days, and still like to shoot a puck (after all, I AM Canadian!) But when I’m 70 years old and can’t lace the skates anymore, you’ll have to peel the guitar out of my hands!
Music is a passion….Please, have a listen to my songs and check out my videos (and maybe even my store?) And thanx for stopping by. ![]()
Full Bio….
Who is Corinne Newton? Well, I’m a prairie girl, flatlander, farmer’s daughter and farmer’s wife. I grew up on the family farm in Manitoba and married a farmer from Saskatchewan, where now, with our 2 children, we continue to farm and call home.
For as long as I can remember, music has been a part of my life, whether begging Dad to play “Wheels” on the guitar one more time, or waking up to Mom singing and playing the piano. Mom was the force behind piano lessons at 5 years old. But by the time I was 12 I decided that guitar was the way to go, and thus began the love and desire to play, sing and write.
After college, which included Business, Media Production (which was followed by a brief stint as a radio announcer), and Agriculture, I used my first pay check to purchase a Boss digital-studio. I began recording my original material at home, playing all the instruments myself (lead and rhythm guitars, bass guitar, mandolin and lead and background vocals). My album Wave was recorded like this….check it out under the songs tab and feel free to purchase a copy or a download from my store.
People have compared me to Jo-Dee Messina, and Mary Chapin Carpenter – MCC has definately been an influence in my writing. I love and appreciate Canadian music and songwriters – Stompin’ Tom, Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Paul Brandt, Brad Johner and Alan Doyle just to name a few! My lyrics are based on real-life situations and emotions. In the 90’s and early 2000’s, I fronted local bands in my hometown in Manitoba, where I sang and played lead and rhythm guitars. And more recently I’ve joined some local musicians and played for various functions around Southwest Saskatchewan, as well as playing solo acoustic shows. After taking a few years off to start a family, I’m anxious to share my music once again.
